3rd Bi-Annual Restorative Culture Conference
July 4-7, 2019
BIG THANKS TO
GENEROUS FOOD SPONSORS!
Our Ecovillage Shuttle Service is scheduled with minimizing Carbon Footprint in mind. If you are depending upon our shuttle service, we ask that you be willing to wait up to four hours at your arrival/departure location in order to reduce the number of shuttle trips each day. Please consider using our ride share board to collaborate creatively with other conference participants on traveling to and from the conference. Past conference attendees have split the cost of rental cars, carpool gas etc to in order to reduce environmental impact and avoid airports and bus stations.
We suggest you to utilize our Facebook event as a way to post messages and inquiries about others who seek to carpool to or from the conference this year. This is a self-organized route so please make your own plans and plan to be in good communication with your pool!
If you are driving to Earthaven, we strongly advise printing or copying directions from the Earthaven website - www.earthaven.org. GPS and cell phone signals are impossible to count on out this way! Once at the entrance to Earthaven, cross the creek once and take the first right on Hidden Valley Road. This will take you to the campground or, if you're not camping, to the Visitor Parking lot. Walk out the other side of the lot and check in with us at the Council Hall.
Most folks flying are arriving either at the Greenville-Spartanburg, SC or Asheville NC Regional Airport. Greenville arrivals may rent cars there or catch a shuttle to the Asheville Airport, where it may be easier to catch a ride out to Earthaven with other folks attending the conference. We recommend posting your needs in the Facebook event for best results!
The closest Amtrak station is Greenville, SC, a small station about 2 hours away. If you are arriving at Greenville, please use the Facebook event to see if there's someone coming through or from there who can pick you up.
The Greyhound Bus station in Asheville is likely to be an easy pick-up spot for local folks attending the Conference. Please use the Facebook event to organize rides to and from the conference if you travel in this way!
Meals, Lodging & Transportation
How We Approached Meals
Mostly organic, non-GMO, and locally-sourced-as-possible meals were served at Earthaven from breakfast on Friday through lunch on Sunday. Additional meals were offered to those enrolling for the pre-conference intensives on Thursday. The mostly self-serve breakfasts included a protein, were vegan friendly, and lunch and dinner were hearty and considerate of many dietary needs and choices. On the Registration Form, food could be ordered by the day, or for the whole Conference at a small discount. Participants also brought their own food, although refrigeration was limited. There is a small country store nearby for purchasing ice and there are ample good food sources in Black Mountain.
Lodging Options at Earthaven Ecovillage
Reservations must be made through the Registration Form or by calling Culture's Edge directly. Note to help support the time involved in coordinating housing , there is a $5 booking fee per person included in rates provided.
Our main campground provides good drinking water from our well, a covered group kitchen with propane burners for cooking and heating water, and picnic tables and benches. Some pots & pans, dishes, utensils, etc., are provided; you may want to bring anything specific that you may need. An outhouse with composting toilet and hand wash station and a solar-heated shower are also on site. The shower is great on sunny days; there may be other bathing facilities at the Conference.
Most sites are relatively small. There are a few larger sites for larger tents; let us know which you think you will need. We have a limited number of RV and pop-up spaces. There are no hook-ups. Visitors in RVs are welcome to use campground facilities; size limit is 30 feet. Distance from the campground to the main Conference venue: 2 minutes walking.
• Tent campsite - $10 per person per night
• RV/pop-up trailer space - $10 plus $5 per person per night
Other Onsite Camping
If the campground is full, additional (and more rustic) campground space may be open in other parts of the community.
